Esteban Lucas Bridges, 1874- 1949,
(June / 22 / 2003)
Born in Fire Land (1874), son of the famous Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges, grew up among the native yaganes of the Southern shore of the isle learning their language and their customs perfectly. He was also in touch with selk'nam of mounts and steppes, becoming his companion of huntings and initiated in the rituals of that southern race. Fruit of his knowledge is the book "The uttermost part of the Earth" (1952), masterpiece and voluminous work that has already had several editions, and which is a fundamental for the knowledge of the missing southern ethnic groups. |
